Spirituality

People often come into therapy feeling dis-spirited and disconnected from those things that are truly meaningful to them, whether in one’s work, relationships or creative life.

Spirituality is a difficult concept to define. One can live a spiritual life without practicing any religion, or practice a religion without living a spiritual life. I believe that however one chooses to understand it, spirituality is part of what it is to be human. The spiritual person is someone who seeks a genuine connection with others while striving to find one’s unique voice.

Many view an active spiritual life as one path to psychological health. For example, a number of prominent therapists have written about the similarities between Buddhist and other spiritual practices, and the process of psychotherapy. It is clear that there are many ways to come to know oneself. In my work with clients I welcome this expression of human nature into our sessions.
